Creative Agency · Cultural Platform · Curatorial Practice.
Rootformula is a multidisciplinary creative agency and cultural platform co-directed by Emalohi and Adey Omotade. Operating across sound, visual culture, research, and collective practice, Rootformula develops long-term creative infrastructures that prioritise experimentation, transparency, and ethical collaboration.
At its core, Rootformula challenges extractive models of cultural production by foregrounding process, shared authorship, and contextual intelligence. The platform designs environments where artists, researchers, designers, technologists, and cultural practitioners can work across disciplines while remaining grounded in cultural responsibility.
Studio Sessions
Rootformula’s Studio Sessions function as live laboratories—spaces for experimentation, recording, conversation, and documentation. These sessions bridge private creative processes with public engagement, often forming the foundation for performances, exhibitions, publications, and extended research projects.
Open Studios
The Open Studios programme reimagines the studio as a civic and educational space. Throughout 2025, Rootformula opened selected studio processes to the public through walk-throughs, listening sessions, discussions, and informal critiques—demystifying creative labour and inviting audiences into works-in-progress.
Creatives in Rotation
A defining feature of Rootformula’s 2025 programme was its Creatives-in-Rotation model. Rather than fixed line-ups, rotating constellations of artists and practitioners shaped each public event, allowing for multiplicity, cross-pollination, and emergent collaboration.
Collaborations
Rootformula prioritises long-term, relationship-based collaborations with artists, cultural institutions, and independent practitioners across Africa and the diaspora.
